踏入2018年，人们在1月1日（亚洲地区是2日）抬头望向星空，会发觉一轮大满月亮悬挂，散发着清丽的光芒，这是今年第一个超级月亮。
今年首个超级月亮出现在美东时间1日下午4时49分，距离地球只有356,500公里左右，超级月亮最圆一刻则出现在当日晚上9时24分。平均来讲，月球与地球的距离为382,900千米。
1日的大满月在西方叫狼月（Wolf Moon）。对于那些不熟悉“狼月”这个名称的人来说，“狼月”之名是由于在满月之夜，狼群不断嚎叫而产生。
美国宇航局（NASA）表示，1日的超级月亮的亮度及面积，比去年7月27日的月圆分别亮14%及大30%。这样的现象大约13个月出现一次，而今年的超级满月又刚好在新年的欢乐气氛中登场。

NASA早前表示，去年12月3日、今年1月2日以及1月31日的超级月亮，将形成“超级月亮三部曲”，且本月底的超级月亮是“额外特别”的收获，因当日超级月亮同时是月全食，地球大气层反射的太阳光线，会让月亮染上红光，称为“血月”，将会出现红月美景。

NASA还说，在一个月里第二次出现的超级月亮，通常被称为“蓝月”。
